I've found that routine is the best way to get a good nights sleep. I try to stop watching TV at least a half hour before I go to sleep (although that doesn't always work out) and spend some time in the quiet, relaxing or reading. I diffuse organic lavender oil every night about 15 minutes before I go to sleep and always wash and moisturize my face. I also need the room to be pitch black with sort of white noise, so I like to have the fan running.
I also find that getting everything out of my head before trying to sleep can prevent that mind wandering anxiety that can creep up and keep you awake for hours. If you've been experience this a lot, keeping a notebook by your bed can definitely help. It doesn't necessarily have to be a journal. Just writing whatever is in your head, even if it's not complete sentences and doesn't make sense, it can still be beneficial.
